Welcome

Eleven planning tools for crop and livestock operations. Pick one from the menu above, or tap a name below. Everything runs on your device. Nothing you type is sent anywhere.

About the starting numbers. Prices, yields, costs and rates pre-filled in each tool are rounded sample figures so the screens show something sensible. Replace them with your own before you rely on a result.

Use the Clear button on any tool to return it to its starting values. Tools that use standard factors (crop removal, forage intake, shrink) say so in a note under the results.

Enterprise Budget & Break-even

Build a per-acre budget for one crop. Pick a crop for sample figures, then replace them with yours.

Government payments, straw, grazing, etc.

Direct costs ($ per acre)

Overhead & land ($ per acre)

Equipment Cost vs Custom Hire

Compare owning a machine with paying a custom operator. Costs follow the standard fixed-plus-operating method.

Starting numbers are sample figures for a typical machine. Use your own purchase price, hours and fuel.

Ownership

Operating

Total repair cost over the working life.
For pulled implements: the tractor's total hourly cost.

Field capacity

Custom hire

Seeding Rate

Turns a target plant stand into the seed you need to buy, allowing for seed purity, germination and field losses.

From the seed tag.
Emergence and seedling survival.
For planter seed spacing in the row.

Fertilizer Needs

Converts nutrient recommendations (pounds of N, P2O5 and K2O per acre) into product pounds and cost. Take the recommendation from your soil test or local extension guide.

Crop-removal helper (optional)

Fills the P2O5 and K2O boxes with what the crop removes (maintenance rate).

Nutrient need (lb per acre)

Previous soybeans, manure, etc.

Products and prices

Lime Needs

Ag lime tons per acre, adjusted for how strong and how fine your lime is. Your soil test lime recommendation is the best starting point.

Use the number on the soil test report, and note what lime quality it assumes. Most labs assume pure calcium carbonate, ECCE 100%.

Your lime

Neutralizing value on the lime analysis.
From the sieve analysis. Finer lime works faster.

Stocking Rate

How many animals a pasture can carry for a grazing season, and how much hay covers the rest of the year.

Pasture

About 2,000 to 6,000 for most improved pasture. Ask your extension office for local figures.
Share of forage the animals actually eat. "Take half, leave half" is 50.

Hay for the rest of the year

Feed Ration

Mix up to five feeds and see dry matter, protein, energy and cost per head per day. Enter pounds as fed, the way you weigh it out.

Feed analyses and prices are typical sample values. For real rations, use your own feed test results.

Feeds

Grain Bin Capacity

Bushels and tons in a round bin. Choose how deep the grain is at the wall and whether it is peaked.

Eave height when filled to the eave.
How steeply the pile peaks.

Working backward (optional)

Grain Shrink & Drying

What drying removes from your bushels, and what it costs. Water shrink is exact math. Handling shrink is a small extra loss.

Typically 15 for corn stored to spring, 13 for soybeans, 13.5 for wheat.
Many elevators charge about 1.2 to 1.4 for corn. This shows how much extra they keep over true water loss.

Hay Bale Weight & Value

Estimate bale weight from size and density, then work out price per bale, per ton and per acre. Weigh a few bales and use the measured weight for the best accuracy.

Round bales run about 7 to 12. Tighter bales weigh more.

Your field or stack (optional)
